2 months old - Friday, May 7, 2010

Baby GL is 2 months!  His weight is 1200 grams, 2lbs 10oz and he's 12 3/4 inchs long.  We can't believe it's already been 2 months.  The goal is to have him home by 3 months.

Baby GL has had a pretty good week.  The new cannula has taken some getting used to.  He's not used to breathing so much on his own so it causes him to use a lot more energy.  OT has been watching daily for if Baby GL is strong enough to bottle feed.  We'll see if today they are able to resume trying a bottle.

Yesterday, Baby GL spent all day just sleeping.  He really needed the rest and hopefully that will allow his body to recover and strengthen.  It's a difficult task to remember to breath when a baby is only 35 weeks gestation.  He's not supposed to be breathing outside of mama's body but we couldn't ask for more than what great progress he's made.

Aside from allowing him to rest there hasn't been much change.  His job now is to grow and get stronger.  He is still receiving steroid treatments but now through an inhaler.  It seems to be helping strengthen his lungs and repair the lung disease.  What we are being told is that it will take years for the lungs to repair themselves but being so young at least his lungs can repair themselves.
