Ear muffs - Friday, March 26, 2010

Today was a sweet day.  Baby GL started getting the steroid meds yesterday and they are really agreeing with him. They have helped him recover faster during the tests and moving around.  He even stayed calm enough for the nurses to give him a small sponge bath last night. The steroids are just able to help any inflammation that may be happening in his lungs.  We hope to heal and strengthen them so not to have any more collapsing in his stats.

When I first saw Baby GL today he looked a little odd.  The nurses put ear muffs on him.  Because he has been so sensitive to the noises around him they put on little ear muffs that stick to his head and surround his ear.  They seem quite large for his head but it's really just the muff being large enough to stick around his ear and have a space for the ear not to be squished inside.  It was really adorable watching him be so cozy and peaceful with these oversized yellow, construction-like ear muffs on.  If they serve the purpose, I'm all for them.

Fridays are when we usually would change his condo, but the nurses wanted to give him some chill time.  We are waiting until Sunday to see if he will remain as good as he was today with his breathing.  If so we will hope to change his condo and get to kangaroo again.  We also hope to begin his feedings again.  Lots to hope for on Sunday.

Now being 3 weeks old we can see a lot of developing in Baby GL.  Last week you could really see how wonderful his skin had developed.  It wasn't so translucent as it was a birth and he has great color.  He has had the help frequent blood transfusions to help that along.  In fact he had one today.  Some of the other things we've noticed is his movements.  When he was first born he would move his middle and ring fingers.  Now he fully opens his hand and tried to grab at things like his breathing tube.  He also has a lot more fuzz on his body.  It was strange to look at his back today and see how fuzzy his shoulders are.  He is really soft to touch with all that fuzz.  That's really how I would describe his hair on his head now.  His hair is visible growing in and there is even a little style to it.  Right down to his bushy eyebrows.  It's going to be a while before we'll see them, but I'm anxious to know what color eyes he'll have.  Right now I'm perfectly happy looking into his very dark eyes and watching his expressions with each glance.
