Dad's first diaper - Thursday, March 18, 2010

Today is another good day.  Baby GL had a change in his medications. He is being slowly taken off some of his antibiotics but he did have a med added today for his liver. He's doing well which is why he's able to be taken off some those meds and there are limits to how long he can stay on them.

Some exciting news for Dad, he finally changed his first diaper. He was so excited and proud.  I think it's a difficult move when you finally decide it's ok to touch such a small baby.  I know it was difficult for me at first.  These babies are so fragile and we think that one touch will break them. Baby GL does really well with being moved and poked.  He gets an attitude but I think anyone would when you are constantly being moved around and attached to wires. He actually wiggles around so much his alarms are constantly going off.  He still lets everyone know when he needs a diaper change or if he needs his mouth suctioned.  It's funny to see how he just settles down when all his issues are resolved.   Eyes close, hands rest close to his head and he's able to sleep.

Something else I'm taking notice of is his facial expressions. He is yawning now, which is hard to see with his breathing tube, but I can see his mouth widen and his eyes squint.  He also gets a look like he wants to be crying.  That one is pretty noticeable.  So tiny but a very large personality.

Tomorrow is another day to change Baby GL's condo so that means I get to hold him again. We are going to make the attempt to kangaroo him as long as he behaves.  At least my worries will be calmed to know he will still be monitored while we go through the process.  Baby GL will be 2 weeks old tomorrow.
