Birthday present - Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I was given the best birthday present from my son.  Aside from just spending time with him he got through the whole day without a bradycardia episode.  I think that's the first day.  It shows how much he's grown.

This morning Baby GL saw the ENT doctor.  Another great report.  He handled the poking and probing so well.  No bradycardia and he recovered in his breathing stats quickly, which is a huge difference from only a couple weeks ago.

The vocal cords are functioning as they should be.  That means we will be able to start bottle feeding him again.  It's ironic that his crazy tongue thrusting that is bad during bottle feeds works for him in learning to swallow.  Or so that's how I understood it.  His bottle feed are being put on hold for right now only because of his weight.  The Neonatal doctor isn't satisfied with his weight gain.  If he were to start bottle feeds he'd burn a lot of calories that he needs. So for now his calorie intake is increasing with fortifying his milk.  Once he gets to a satisfactory weight he'll start bottle feeds again.  I can't say what will be that satisfactory weight, though.  He is at 3lbs 2oz now which is down a little so that's probably the doctor's concern.

Now there's nothing to do but wait.  I've been preparing Baby GL's nursery for him.  We are anxious to get him home.  Hopefully his due date of June 11th will still be when he comes home.
