Bigger Clothes - Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Baby GL has had a pretty average stay at his new hospital.  His daily activities include breathing, sleeping, pooping, sucking on a pacifier getting ready for his chance at a bottle, finally getting that bottle, then sleeping again.  He does get the occasion ride in the swing which gives him an opportunity to look around.  Who wouldn't want a life like that.

His latest weight, as of today, is 5lbs 11oz, 2585 grams.  He's getting closer to those 3 kilos the surgeon is looking for in order to do his hernia surgery.  I think the goal is still to work on his lungs.  He gets to be on a high flow cannula for 6 hours a day now.  The rest of the time he's on his CPAP.  Slowly he'll increase his time on  the cannula and eventually get away from the CPAP.

The wonderful thing with Baby GL's age now is that we are no longer worrying so much about bradycardia episodes, when his heart rate drops.  Occasionally, when he's getting a bottle he'll have a brady. Speech is really great at reading his signals so they can avoid a brady in most cases.  He's learning to suck, swallow, and breath with Speech. Most of the time he just sucks then swallows and forgets the breathing. He's been doing well, though.  Tonight he managed to fall asleep during a feed Speech didn't even get 1 cc in.  Other times he'll get 5-10 ccs doing a pretty good job.  It's a battle to find a time when he's awake and alert for feeds because he's not had to be awake for them until now.

I gave him a bath tonight.  He's getting so big that he's nearly jumping out of the tub.  He pushes off the bottle which make sit hard to hold him in.  When I dress him now it gets more difficult to button his clothes.  He's nearly grown out of his first set of clothing.  Considering we've been in these clothes for a few months I think it could be time to try something new.  It's hard to let go of his first outfits.
