Sneezes - Monday, April 5, 2010

Baby GL had a big weekend.  Saturday, Grandma came to watch us kangaroo.  It was very sweet because she's never seen anything like that before.  She was so excited to touch his skin and feel how soft he is.  Baby GL kept his eyes open for a lot of our session.  I think he was excited to see Grandma.

Something I forgot to mention from Friday was that Baby GL sneezed 3 times.  It was so cute.  Such small, noiseless sneezes.  He has a lot of facial expressions now.  In fact his tongue is always moving.  I think he's trying to move the tubes in his mouth.

Baby GL's weight is holding pretty steady.  He's bounced around a bit but as of today he's 660 grams which is 1lb 7oz.  I was hoping to get hand and foot prints today since it's Baby GL's one month birthday.  It was difficult, though, because he needed a blood transfusion today.  I hope to get them tomorrow.  I've been told he needs a bath so it's possible tomorrow we will replace our kangaroo session with a little bath time.  If I get lucky we can get his prints then give him a bath.

We did have a good day for Baby GL's birthday.  I got a phone call this morning with excellent news about his liver levels.  His numbers are going down now.  Up until today his levels were showing signs of liver failure so the numbers decreasing is great news.  Also, we finally got a great bowel movement.  Everyone was so excited to see his first big dirty diaper.  I missed it, but the nurses were jumping for joy.

What assisted the great diaper was his great progress on feedings.  As of Friday, Baby GL was getting 2ccs every 3 hours of milk.  Saturday it got bumped up to 3ccs which was very surprising.  Sunday he was jumped up to 4ccs.  I was told that usually he would stick with a certain amount for a couple days before increasing his feedings.  I guess they are not worried about that with him.  Today was even more suprising because he's now on 6ccs.  It was a huge increase in his feedings just in a matter of a few days.  We think the extra milk helped get the dirty diaper we were so excited about.

Yesterday was Baby GL's first Easter.  The nurses made it very nice for him.  We had a surprise with a great decorated picture of him with his mouth piece moved so we could see more of his face.  It's so sweet to see how he is being taken care of.  The nurses make sure he celebrates the holidays.  He also got some easter eggs with chocolate.  I took care of the chocolate for him.  It's what a good mama does.
