Jacuzzi tub - Monday, April 26, 2010

Yesterday was a great day.  We gave Baby GL his bath.  Now that he has the CPAP we were able to dunk him in the tub.  I don't think he enjoyed it as much as we did.  Without the tube down his throat we can here a small cry coming out when he's not happy.  The nurses take the oxygen and make a jacuzzi tub for the babies.  Still, I don't think he enjoyed his spa day.  After his bath he slept really well.

Today was a day of transition.  Baby GL increased from 13cc's of milk every 2 hours to 19cc's every 3 hours.  It will allow him to rest more. The other great news is that tomorrow morning he's being moved off CPAP to a high flow cannula to try.  He's been doing so well with the CPAP that they feel he's strong enough to move to the high flow cannula.  I'm so excited.  Each move towards the cannula means I can see his face more. Now that he has his mouth mostly free I can watch his breathing while he sleeps. He has a little puff out his mouth with his breaths.  He's also able to have his pacifier more often.  However, there have been a couple times that he forgets to breath when he gets to busy with his pacifier so the nurses have to confiscate it.

Other than that he's doing so well.  We couldn't have expected him to be doing as well as he is.  I have in my mind his 8th day of life and I remember how we almost lost him.  Now we can see his milestones everyday.  At the end of this week he'll be 34 weeks.  He will be able to start a bottle and get rid of the feeding tube as long as he's on the cannula.  He will also be portable on the cannula so finally he can have visitors.  With him being portable we can bring him to the window to introduce him to anyone who wants to see him.  I am just excited to hold him more freely, too.
